Conservatory Foundations – Part A
There are several types of foundation which can be used for either an extension or conservatory but check before progressing if you are going to dig the foundation yourself.
The different types of foundation which can be used for a conservatory include –
Deep Strip –
This type of foundation is most commonly used for a conservatory as well as being the cheapest for ground that is suitable to stand a conservatory.
The general minimum width for a foundation has the measurements of 450mm but this does depend on the soil conditions and type. Some builders may quote you 600m which are more commonly used for two story structures.
When it comes to the concrete, the minimum depth should be 225mm in size
Trench Filled –
This type of foundation can be quicker to dig compared to deep strip foundation as mentioned above which means you can have your conservatory up and running much quicker than with other foundations. It maybe quicker but the cost can be higher due to the amount of concrete required for the trench filled foundation.
When the trench foundation is filled with concrete, it should be no less than 500mm to a minimum of 150mm below ground level.
If you have loose soil or a high water levels compared to other areas such has those with many trees and clay then a trench filled foundation can be more suitable.
