Pool Enclosures

If you want to enjoy the pleasures of swimming all year round without the downsides of an outside pool such as insects, leaves and the weather then a pool enclosure is the answer. One of the main questions asked is whether their conservatory can house the pool.

The answer to this question is yes. It may however needs some structural support to get it up to standard. Conservatories in general will have roofs that can span anything up to six meters without additional supports. If you are after a small pool or spa within your conservatory then there shouldn’t be too many problems. Larger pools however will require additional work.

To get a large span conservatory you will require additional work on the sub structure. This is usually made from aluminium but a traditional alternative is timber which is occasionally used. This sub structure needs to be fully secured to the ground. It is the key to the conservatory and will be where the majority of the cost inflicted.

Over the last few years because of the overall popularity of the wide span conservatory a mini portal structure has been developed and is available from some companies which offers a span greater than the six meters of normal conservatories without a large portal frame which are required on commercial type enclosures. This has made the larger span conservatory available to many more.

How much will it cost?

The cost is hard to define as it really depends on your particular needs. It is going to be more than a normal conservatory especially when it has a wide span roof which requires a mini-portal. You will also need to consider a dehumidifier to larger conservatories. It is likely that any decent conservatory will cost over £20,000 with many costing up to £100,000 once it has been build and the extras added.

Do I need planning permission?

It is most likely that you will need planning permission especially with larger conservatories. It is also likely that building regulation approval will be required for most of the conservatories. This may not be the case with the smallest ones. It is always best to check.

Suppliers of conservatories will include the needed permissions and permits required for their work. Dome Structures and Low level sliding structures may not require planning permission as they are not seen as permanent. These are not as higher quality but they are a more affordable price.
